Oil Pulling {For The Clueless}

oil pulling

Have you heard of oil pulling?

Who am I kidding?  You are either clueless or you have seen the crazy amount of posts about it lately.

This term is simply using OIL to PULL toxins from your body -or- to PULL through your mouth A.K.A swish.

This is a new (not really new, but it is to the majority of the public) way to detox with miracle oils.  I have been curious about it since I first saw a post a few months ago, but it wasn’t until I saw this awesome post by Erica that I decided it’s time.

You may be asking yourself…”Why the hell would I swish oil around in my mouth?”

Taken from Dr. Oz:

“Studies have shown that intake of coconut oil can help our bodies mount resistance to both viruses and bacteria that can cause illness. Even more, it also can help to fight off yeast, fungus and candida.

Coconut oil can also positively affect our hormones for thyroid and blood-sugar control. People who take coconut oil also tend to have improvements in how they handle blood sugar since coconut can help improve insulin use within the body. Coconut oil can boost thyroid function helping to increase metabolism, energy and endurance. It increases digestion and helps to absorb fat-soluble vitamins.”

It really is capable of improving oral health and treating systemic diseases.  Don’t believe me?  Trina posted that she hadn’t brushed her teeth in over a year.  Yes… a year!

Erica posted a great visual for you about more benefits of oil pulling.

Even better… the detox effect can help clear acne and lead to a glowing complexion.

I have done it for two days now and here is what I notice already: #closeup #apologies #freckles

oil pulling in mouth

After I pull, my nose feels funny.  I am thinking that is sinuses being cleared out.  I feel awake.  I have super smooth teeth and oddly enough, my urge to snack goes away.  I plan on doing this for a while but want to start with committing to 7 days.  You should join me!

The eye rolls are accompanied by these questions currently:

How do I do it?

First thing in the morning (empty stomach), grab a spoonful of oil and put it in your mouth to melt.  Once it melts, swish and move it around for about 15- 20 minutes.  Once you are finished you just spit it into the trash and rinse with salt water and brush like normal if you prefer.  You don’t have to brush at all as weird as that sounds.

What kind of oil do I use?

I prefer to use Extra Virgin Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil.  You can also use sesame oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, etc.  I love the slight coconut flavor and antibacterial properties of coconut oil, so I stick with that.

Doesn’t it feel gross?

I find that the first minute is the weirdest.  I can distract myself with things for 20 minutes, but a waxy chunk of coconut oil feels really strange until it melts and then it just feels like water.

Did you just say 20 minutes?

I suggest you do it while showering, making breakfast, watching the news, or even folding laundry in my case.  It’s really not that bad if you distract yourself.

What does it feel like after you spit?

My mouth feels really smooth.  There is no flavor and my lips are super soft.

Don’t you want a minty fresh taste?

Actually, having minty breath is no indication of oral health.  I would rather have less sensitivity, no morning breath, no cavities, less TMJD, glowy skin and so much more!

Do you still have questions?  Have you ever tried it?  Do you think I am a nutcase?  Do you want to join me?
