Back to The Grind

Good morning!

What is on your agenda for the week?  I have a lot of things to work on between moving and selling, so I will be pretty busy!  I’m finding it’s almost impossible to pack with a mobile child.  She wants to help but just empties everything I try to pack up.  Insert coffee here

Needless to say, I needed a break.  So I met a few friends out for martinis on Saturday.  I haven’t been able to make it to girl’s night lately, so it was nice to catch up.

One thing I love about my friends is that we all attempt to make healthy decisions and don’t judge one another when it comes to our eating habits.  In fact, we make a point to accommodate each other because we know how frustrating it can be to deal with comments or be surrounded by junk food at other social events.  (See my guest post on my BFF Lauren’s blogHealthy Living Makes Me A Better Mom)

If not, you have a serious problem.

If you want to be a millionaire, are you going to spend time with poor people.  NO!  It’s a proven fact that we start to behave like the people we surround ourselves with.  So if you want to be health conscious, motivated to workout and feel happy, then hang out with the right friends.

There will be days you eat an entire batch of cookies.  There will be days you fit into smaller sized jeans.  By sharing these fails and feats, you will feel in control.  Being able to vent, identify with a friend, and get some encouragement will help you stay on track and reinforce your efforts to be healthier.


When was the last time you were at a social event and there wasn’t food?  Never.  Everything we do revolves around food.  Some studies show that your friend’s food choices influence yours by as much as 34.5%.  So imagine meeting a friend for lunch while you are attempting to make healthy decisions… Chances are, you give in to the pop because she does, you eat a larger portion and opt for the fries instead of a vegetable side.  Instead, enjoy social events with friends who are also striving for a healthy plate.  This will help keep you focused on not give in to the guilt.


Having friends who are health buffs means you share a mother load of ideas!  One of my favorite parts about girl’s night is that we each bring something healthy to share a new recipe.  This is where we learn that spaghetti squash pizza crust is a bust, but avocado salsa is a must!  We also have a secret group on Facebook where we share healthy info with each other whether it be a quick workout or a nutritious appetizer.  I also would love to do a meal swaps or a cooking and freezer stash night to cut down on prep and get a variety of foods.


When all else fails, make new friends!  It’s sad, but true; some friends just hold you back.  If you aren’t striving for the same goals, you don’t have to entirely cut them out of your life, but it’s a good time to meet new people who have similar views.  Don’t be afraid to chat with your neighbor before your fitness class!  Even if these friends are virtual, you will be influenced.  Fill your Instagram and Twitter with like minded people and make some connections!

It’s important to remember that you can also help influence your friends.  Don’t just give up on them, but invite them to try new things with you and make healthy changes in their life as you do the same.
