Y’all know I love to take unhealthy foods and make them macro friendly, so why not just start a section on my blog here where I can just keep the macro hack recipes?!
If you aren’t sure what macros are or what IIFYM is…
I basically track my macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats) to hit calorie goals for the day. So while I am trying to hit those numbers, I like to stretch my macros to get more bang for my buck!
I like to follow the 80/20 rule and keep most of my food nutrient dense but allow myself 20% of fun foods or even get creative with my clean foods when I’m fixin’ for some chocolate or other cravings.
So let’s compare S’mores!
1 Regular Homemade S’mores
280 calories 49C 9.5F 4P
1 S’mores Poptart
200 calories 36C 5F 3P
Starbucks Grande S’mores Frappucino
490 calories 73C 20F 5P
Ouch… that is not that much volume for such high numbers! I would definitely still be hungry after those.
So here is where I get creative and try to find a swap (macro hack) of something with more volume, comparable fat and higher protein because it will keep me full longer.
1 Lil Buff Protein Cookie S’more
140 calories 24C 3.2F 6P
As you can see, I can eat TWO of these S’mores for the same calories as just one regular version! And they can’t even compete with a Starbs S’mores drink.
I love Lil Buff Protein mix and use it daily. It should be a sin, but the ingredients are so great! (ground flax, coconut flour, etc) We make cookies, cake, cupcakes, pancakes, etc with Lil Buff Protein mix! Grab yours here and use my affiliate code (kaylav) to save 15% on your order.
I didn’t toast the marshmallows but these would be amazing if you did! Just make your cookies ahead of time and store in the fridge. When you toast your marshmallows over your fire this summer, add a cookie and the graham cracker. Sweet tooth fix and you could eat 2 with zero guilt.
Have a great day, folks and remember to enjoy the little things in life!
